Portraits and dogs

October 15th, 2008

I’ve done several portraits with dogs. I’ve done small dogs, medium dogs, and I’ve even done one one with a dog named Thor; you can imagine the size of Thor, the name fits. Someday I may do a post of all the dog pics I have. Until I have a time to pull them all together, here is one I did last week while working with a local preschool. We did this photo as a gift for the girl’s mother.

Portraits

October 13th, 2008

It’s been a busy week for me photographically. I’ve done a family portrait, a preschool (about 60 individual portraits and 4 group photos) got prints going for a judged show I’m submitting to, and worked on a photo assignment I’m working on with some friends. Here is a head shot I did while working on the assignement.

Portraits at the Salt Flats

June 2nd, 2008

Yesterday we packed up the family, the bikes, and the camera equipment for a day out to the Bonneville Salt Flats. Not only is the terrain there perfect for breaking land speed records, but it make a great environment for portraits. We had 2 other families with us so we spent several hours playing around and taking pictures. (Family pictures will be out in the next couple of days.)

After we were done with the family pics I spent some time photographing my wife. Here are a couple of my favorites.

BYU Young Ambassadors

March 31st, 2008

This afternoon I got a call asking if I would take a group photo for the Young Ambassadors. They were doing a fireside tonight and needed a portrait in their fireside attire and something happened with the photographer they had previously arranged. I was happy to oblige. Working with a group this big can sometimes be challenge, but this session turned out to be breeze. It was hard not to lose the dark jackets in the background without blowing out their faces, but I am pleased with the outcome.

Classic Portrait

December 11th, 2007

Tonight I was able to shoot a missionary heading to Houston next week. I was going for the classic portrait. I’ve not done a lot of posing, but I think it’s close to a classic masculine pose.

Family Portraits

April 26th, 2007

The other night I was able to do a family portrait for a great couple. It was fun to work with them because I did their wedding over a year ago; it doesn’t seem like it’s been that long. (If you can get to my gallery, you’ll see the bridals. She’s the one with the cowboy hat.) We made some nice images. I especially like the candids we did at the end.

Family Portraits

October 14th, 2006

It’s fall, the season for family portraits. This year I’ve done a lot of portraits for families in the neighborhood. It’s been fun. This morning we did a portrait of my family. While we were there I took a few pictures of my kids. Here is a picture of Jacob that turned out nice.

New Portrait

December 14th, 2005

Today I took a trip up to Pictureline to pick up an ExpoDisc white balance filter. After shooting a bridal in the Joseph Smith Memorial building downtown Salt Lake, I learned how valuable an accurate white balance setting can be.

After picking up the filter, I hooked up with my friend Jason for lunch. After lunch I tagged along to a portrait he was shooting for the Deseret News. I helped him test his light. (Picture shown)

I’m always amazed by how calm Jason is when taking pictures. I’m always sweating like a dog, trying to make sure I’m getting everything right. Maybe the difference is that the people I’m taking the picture of are paying me, while the pictures he’s taking are for the paper. Most likely, it’s a differnce in confidence. Jason’s been doing this for a long time and is confident in his work. I, on the other hand, still worry about how my work will turn out.
